Wellness and outstanding hospitality in Crete
Location: Greece
Website: nanaprincess.gr
With its choice of suites and villas – including two new suites and three villas in April 2024 – plus excellent facilities and elevated drinking and dining concepts, Nana Princess brings outstanding hospitality to Crete. The resort is big on wellness, and while almost every accommodation comes with a private pool and spacious outdoor sun deck, some boast their own saunas and steam rooms, and several have their own private gyms. The three-bedroom Grand Royal Villa has a whole floor dedicated to games and entertainment.
There’s an extensive wellness centre, where treatments can be tailored to guests’ zodiac signs, as well as a range of restaurants and bars with menus inspired by local influences, Mediterranean flavours and international trends. Guests can also enjoy the extensive facilities at near by sister property Nana Golden Beach.

Also under the warm Grecian sun but on the northern edge of Crete, Nana Princess is set on a pristine sandy beach just 2.5km from the centre of Hersonissos, a pretty coastal town around 25km from Heraklion Airport. While Elounda has been well-established for years, Hersonissos has managed to remain the unspoilt, secret alternative. Yet it has everything Elounda has: a historic Old Town with a thriving shopping scene and leafy al fresco dining – and just an eight-minute taxi from the hotel.

There are some wonderfully authentic restaurants and bars in Hersonissos. With warm service and a great atmosphere, Harakas is the spot for a traditional Greek dinner, sometimes accompanied by dancing on the square it’s situated on. The Peskesi Restaurant is another worthy spot. Come here for lunch and tuck into long-forgotten traditional Cretan flavours – the food is super. Also worth exploring are two nearby villages, Koutouloufari and Piskopiano within a quick 10-minute drive of the hotel; the former, a pretty village with lots of lovely restaurants (we particularly love Nikos the Fisherman), and the latter a small and friendly village at the foot of Mount Charakas which is ideal for wandering around with an ice cream in the afternoon.
Further afield you have easy access to Knossos Palace, one of the most impressive (and most-visited) archaeological sites in Greece, which was the cradle of Minoan civilisation, as well as the El Greco museum. Heraklion is ripe for a day trip – you can go out for lunch and combine an afternoon of shopping with a trip to the Museum of Heraklion for more Knossos history-hunting. Then there’s Agios Nikolaos with its rich heritage and fun nightlife, 30 minutes away. For the active types, great walking and cycling trails bring the mountains to life; staff at the property can help with arranging tours, equipment hire, and sightseeing excursions.
