Luxurious lagoon villas in an tropical island setting

Location: Tenerife
Website: www.royalriver.es

Royal River is situated in one of the Island of Eternal Spring’s most exclusive areas: between the vibrant greenery of the Costa Adeje golf course and the pounding Atlantic Ocean. The 50 accommodations offer a range of styles, from thatched Lagoon Villas edging a shared pool, and River Villas connected by a long, thin pool overhung with tropical foliage, to Pool Villas where guests can splash about in private.

The food is worth coming for alone, from Asian cuisine at Kokoro and French bistro fare at Flamingo, to brasserie-style dining at The Top, with views over the coast and scenery. The strikingly designed Serenity spa performs treatments using ALQVIMIA products, and excursions such as sailing trips can be arranged.

With an average of 300 days of sunshine a year Tenerife is a solid option. The Canary Island boasts a whole host of natural and cultural splendours, from several spectacular golf courses, to the subtropical countryside, and mature pine forests. Edged with both rocky coastline and sandy beaches, the island is heaven for water sports fanatics and families alike, and there are countless ways to enjoy the seaside here, especially around Costa Adeje, where Royal Garden Villas and Royal River are situated.

  • Nestled between a championship golf course and its driving range just 20 minutes away from Tenerife South Airport, these two luxurious properties are not just easy to get to but well placed for exploring some of the island’s best attractions. When guests aren’t admiring the sweeping vale of greenery backed by the folds of Mount Tiede (Tenerife’s volcano and Spain’s highest peak), La Caleta village is just under five minutes’ drive away, boasting a buzzy social scene for those who want to enjoy some island atmosphere. You’re also less than 10 minutes to some of Tenerife’s best beaches by car, in particular Playa del Duque.

With local travel companies like Helidream and Discover Tenerife VIP Tours, guests can experience the island in several ways, from the luxurious to the adventurous. By air, certain helicopter tours can take guests around the Costa Adeje, passing areas like Playa San Juan, Alcalá, and Puerto de Santiago along the way, while paragliding and paratriking give guests a unique yet adrenaline-filled birds-eye view. Private boat excursions exclusive to guests in both hotels can offer three- or six-hour trips on The Royal Boat, as well as deep-sea fishing experiences. Elsewhere, whale-watching, stargazing, volcano hiking and quad tours – a great way to explore Teide volcanic terrain – reveal another side to Tenerife. Some, like the Grand Tour of Tenerife, give you a good snapshot of what the island is like using locals’ insights; others are more niche, like wine-tasting tours and gastronomy experiences in Anaga Nature Park.
